No Strings Attached is a woodwind group. It was formed in October 2012 as a training band.
I have found junior (in standard, not necessarily age) students saying that they would like to join a band, but the various groups available to them are of too high a standard. So, I decided to form an ensemble of my own for clarinet and saxophone players of any age, below grade 5 standard. When they progress and find No Strings Attached too easy, I hope they will move up to another local band.
We play a variety of music, from "Autumn Leaves" to "Greensleeves". I arrange most of the music myself, so if you join but find the music too easy or too hard, I can write a part specifically for you.
No Strings Attached encourages an individual to play with other people of similar standard, gain confidence and learn new musical skills.
The New Milton group performed "Amazing Grace" and "Deep Pan Boogie" at New Milton Music Festival on 22nd March 2014, gaining a Merit. Great comments from adjudicator Ieuan Davies: "A nice blend of sound, with good balance", "Rhythmically well together with nicely shaded dynamics."
A comment from a member: "It was really good to feel part of a group who all respect and support each other. And special thanks to you for everything you have done to make today's performance possible."
The group rehearse on a Tuesday evening from 7pm to 8.30pm at St. James' Church, Pokesdown
The fee is £40 per school term.
